Reduced Turnaround Time and More Accurate Results For Organism Identification

Irvine, California, April 21, 2006 - NAMSA, a leading contract research organization (CRO) specializing in the safety evaluation of medical devices, has begun utilizing a new microbial identification system called the Vitek 2 Compact™. The turn around time associated with organism identification will be greatly reduced with use of the new equipment.  Results can be generated in as few as 7 days compared to the typical 15 day period using other identification systems. 

The Vitek 2 provides excellent identifications without confusion related to a high or low similarity index ratings. This instrument replaces NAMSA’s current system which provided identification using fatty acid profiling.  With the identification by Gas chromatography a similarity index is established and often several organisms are identified as possible matches. Results using the new Vitek 2 system are generated based on biochemical comparisons. The instrument utilizes new Advanced Colorimetric Technology™ which enables the use of additional wavelengths in the identification process. The additional wavelengths provide more accurate results by increasing the number of biochemical tests evaluated in the identification process.
