Edward Black

Director of Global Reimbursement Strategy

Edward Black serves as NAMSA’s Director of Global Reimbursement Strategy where he oversees reimbursement strategy, payer relations and health economics for medtech and biotech companies in the U.S. and abroad. Prior to joining NAMSA, he founded Reimbursement Strategies, LLC in 2008, a medtech consultancy focused on reimbursement services. In total, Mr. Black possesses 25 years of experience in health and provider network management within U.S. healthcare systems. He has served on two national advisory boards where he was responsible for leading efforts for consistency in medical benefit and payment policies. Mr. Black is active in several global medical technology initiatives and is a frequent international lecturer. He serves as an adjunct faculty member of the University of Minnesota—Minneapolis in the Masters of Science in Medical Device Innovation Program, and is a Reimbursement Advisor at the U of MN Office for Technology and at the National University of Ireland Galway (BioExel Program).

Mr. Black earned his MBA at Minnesota State University—Mankato.

Daniel A. Lace, MD, CPE, FAAPL

Physician and Reimbursement Strategist

Dr. Daniel Lace has over 30 years of leadership experience as a healthcare executive across a wide range of managed care, pharmaceutical, device, diagnostic and consulting businesses. He has served as Chief Medical Officer and has held senior leadership positions in global pharmaceutical and device companies, as well as in national managed care organizations. In addition to being a frequent national speaker and educator, Dr. Lace has authored numerous articles and has served on the Board of Directors, Medical Advisory Boards, Editorial Boards and Expert Panels for multiple healthcare entities. Dr. Lace holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Northwestern University (Evanston, IL) and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Illinois College of Medicine (Chicago, IL). He is also a Licensed Physician in Illinois and Arizona, a Certified Physician Executive from American College of Physician Executives and a part of the Fellow American Association for Physician Leadership (FAAPL).

Marco Kalms

Founder & CEO at Kalms Consulting

Marco Kalms offers profound expertise in operational management, commercialization strategies, market access and reimbursement. In 2012, he founded Kalms Consulting, focusing on European Market Access for international medical device, diagnostic, bioscience and Health IT companies.

Marco has more than 25 years of experience in operational, strategic and market access leadership positions in the healthcare industry. As a Sales Manager, Country Manager Germany and Managing Director Europe, he contributed significantly to the growth of American Medical Systems, Inc.

In his role as Managing Director Europe, Marco developed market access strategies to open up new markets in the EMEA regions. It is this mixture of operational business and market access experience that is an essential part of the expertise the Kalms Consulting team offers to support healthcare companies.

Stephan Binder

Co-Founder & COO at Kalms Consulting

As the Co-Founder and COO of Kalms Consulting, Dr. Stephan Binder is responsible for business development; as well as Kalms Consulting’s networks and strategic partnerships.

He has almost 20 years of strategic and operational consulting experience: such as in the fields of medical devices, diagnostics, healthcare IT and bioscience; as well as in hospital workflows and efficiency. Along with strategic market access and reimbursement, key opinion leader networking and product launches, his experience includes technology transfer and applications for public grants (German and European).

Due to his work in project groups at various Hamburg hospitals (now Asklepios Group), the University of Hamburg, the CFEL (Center for Free-Electron Laser Science) and the constant global expansion of Kalms Consulting’s international network, Stephan has profound international working experience with interdisciplinary teams.

Stephan has a Ph.D. degree in physics, in the fields of optics and bio-organic systems and a certificate in Medical Physics and Technology.
