Our study “Patient Empowerment in Medical Device Treatment Decisions” emphasizes the critical role of patient engagement in determining their treatment pathway in collaboration with their physicians and what is expected from medical device manufacturers.
This study took place in September 2024 and consisted of 100 online surveys across therapeutic areas in the US and Europe.
Key Insights:
- Strong treatment decision-sharing process with patients: 35% or more of physicians frequently make a joint decision with patients, and 48% include them always. Educational workshops are an opportunity for medical device manufacturers to become influential
- Physicians believe in patient engagement with medical device manufacturers: One-third of physicians in both regions believe manufacturers should involve patient more in product development and evaluation. More than 50% of Europeans want improved consent forms form manufacturers.
- How medical device manufacturers can support: Over 30% of physicians believe one-on-one patient training modules and tailored patient programs are the most beneficial resources a medical device company could provide to support physician-patient engagement
The study highlights preferred tools for enhancing patient empowerment, including the switch on research focus, and fostering open communication between patients, healthcare providers, and medical device companies.
