Dr. McLarty is an attending cardiothoracic surgeon at Stony Brook University Hospital, where she has served since 1997 following her fellowship at the Mayo Clinic. A leader in advanced heart failure therapies, she founded the hospital’s LVAD program in 2010—now the longest-running and most consistently Joint Commission-certified program on Long Island. Dr. McLarty currently heads the Mechanical Circulatory Support program, which includes a comprehensive ECMO service. She also served as Associate Program Director for the Department of Surgery for a decade, contributing significantly to surgical education and program development. Her clinical and academic interests center on mechanical circulatory support, ECMO, and the evolution of multidisciplinary heart failure care.
